Is Cyber Monday a “thing” outside of the US? My inbox is being bombarded with hundreds of panicky Buy Now! Last Chance! Special Pricing! emails today. My fingers are sore from deleting them all. And I haven’t even bought anything!
I hope all of you who celebrated Thanksgiving had a wonderful holiday. We were lucky enough to have two of our “girls” visit — one who had Covid and a subsequent positive antibody test, and another who never leaves her apartment and whose fiancé recently tested negative for Covid. Fingers crossed that nobody gets sick.
Having consumed enough food to feel positively whale-ish, the following article seemed appropriately Good Newsy for this week.

I can relate to the number of emails for Cyber Monday. I looked through most of them, alas none had anything remotely close to what I want or crave. I do need (want?) a new laptop because mine is already eight years old, but Apple computers never really go on sale. So that has to wait till the spring when I hopefully get a nice tax refund. So Cyber Monday? Just another day that is meaningless to me. When I grew up in the Midwest there used to be a so-called holiday called “Sweetest Day,” which as I recall was a veiled attempt by confection makers for people to buy candy. But I think it ultimately failed because no one got too excited about a second Valentines Day. And so it goes. – Marty

And now it’s Giving Tuesday, where the extended Cyber-forever e-mails are overshadowing the charitable ones. I vaguely remember “Sweetest Day”, Marty, but never actually knew what it was supposed to commemorate. I propose “Fasting Friday” which would occur annually on the day after Thanksgiving. – Alisa
